Dr. J. Gordon Leishman

Dr. J. Gordon Leishman is Minta Martin Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland. Dr. Leishman holds D.Sc.(Eng), Ph.D., and B.Sc (1st Class Honors) degrees in Aeronautics and Fluid Mechanics and in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Glasgow in the UK. He joined the University of Maryland in 1986. Dr. Leishman is an internationally recognized specialist in rotorcraft aerodynamics whose work has spanned the gamut of experimental, theoretical, and numerical approaches. Formally an aerodynamicist for Westland Helicopters, Dr. Leishman has authored over 250 papers on rotorcraft aerodynamics and topics in fluid mechanics. Dr. Leishman is the author of two books, including Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics, first published in 2000 by Cambridge University Press and adopted as a course text for many colleges and universities worldwide. Dr. Leishman has been a recipient of the Cheeseman Award (2002), the Pilcher Lectureship (2002), and the Cierva Memorial Lectureship (2006). He has also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Helicopter Society. Dr. Leishman is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and a Technical Fellow of the American Helicopter Society.
